Established in 1993, Shenzhen Polytechnic is located near XiLi Lake, adjacent to Shenzhen Safari Park and XiLi Lake Holiday Village in the east, with an area of 330,000 square meters, fine scenery and surroundings. It has a full range of teaching facilities, including 7,000 sets of modern teaching devices and equipments which cost 35,000,000 yuan; the library with an area of 12,000 square meters, 240,000 books, more than 1,600 types of newspapers and periodicals and over 1,000 kinds of audiovisual and electronic publications; the Industrial Center Building with an area of 16,000 square meters, 50 practice shops; the Information Electrical Audio-visual Teaching Building with an area of 9000 square meters, offering CIA Teaching Material Room, Audiovisual Room, Educational TV Station and FM Radio Station for Foreign Language. Furthermore, the Polytechnic has set up 115 training bases beyond school. The Polytechnic supplies 15,000 computers for campus network which will be completed.
　The Polytechnic consists of more than 7,000 fulltime students and 20 departments, offering 34 majors with 68 specialties, including Department of Electronic Telecommunications Engineering, Department of Computer Application Engineering, Department of Economics, Department of Applied Foreign Languages, Department of Design and Art, Department of Electronic and MechanicalEngineering, Department of Biological Application, Management Department, Department of Construction Engineering, Department of Advanced Manufacturing Technology and Engineering, Further Education Center , Basical Courses Teaching Department etc.
　 The Polytechnic has already owned a double teaching staff with 804 persons. It consists of 455 full-time teachers and researchers, 95 persons with the higher title of a technical post, 123 doctors and masters. And besides, the Polytechnic pays attention to the contact and cooperation with the group of various circles, a board of trustees used to invite well-known personages and corporations' leaders to attend has been established. Every speciality has a management commission.
　Since established, the Polytechnic has been in charge of 2 tasks of national level scientific research,15 tasks of provincial level scientific research and 28 tasks of civic level scientific research, 4 of them have won provincial level or above education and scientific research achievement awards, 2 projects have patented the state technological invention. 12 projects have been shown at the first High-tech Fair; 12 learned monographs, 20 vocational education materials and 402 learned papers have been published.
　The Polytechnic has achieved successes in technical development and innovation, forms own features step by step in teaching and training modes of vocational education and adopts the "SANDWICH" teaching way integrating with teaching, study and practice. Specialities are designed to meet the market, course designs develop according to the need of post and vocation. Every student can't graduate until he obtains a professional knowledge certificate and a skill certificate. As the orientation of training aim is exact,the management of education and teaching is strict, a good employment situation prevails on graduates.96th and 97th graduates all got jobs, the employment rate of 98th graduates reached over 98% and 99th graduates' still reached 87% in a grim employment situation. The Polytechnic's training mode and employment situation are highly appraised by the Ministry of Education.
　 The State Education Commission confirmed that Shenzhen Polytechnic be a experimental polytechnic in 1996. On June 18 1997, Li Lanqing, Vice Premier dedicated these words to the Polytechnic: "Develop higher vocational education and foster excellent professionals who have honorable professional ethics and perfect skills." On September 18 of the same year he added:" I hope that Shenzhen Polytechnic be run successfully so as to provide experience for higher vocational education in our country." And he visited the Polytechnic on September. 11,1998. Chen zhili, Minister of Ministry of Education required the Polytechnic be a well-known polytechnic in the national polytechnics in three or five years when he visited the Polytechnic in November 1997. Shenzhen Municipal Government will give the Polytechnic an area of more than 1,000,000square meters and invest 900 million yuan to extend, the total combined enrollment will reach 12,000 in 2005 and reach 24,000 in 2010.
